Suade Q&A on the X Factor forums

2005-04-12 - 10:18 p.m.

The following has been yanked from the x factor forum site where we did a big Q and A session right on the day our ousting from the show was broadcast on the telly. We were all standing around the computer at the Colonel's place shouting answers across the room after a rehearsal. Here goes...

Q : I am going to ask the same question of you as I did pablo, The talent in the competition at this stage is truly immense, how do you see yourselves going, how far do you think you can make it?

Loz: Um, not that far. LOL.

Sam
: Check out the immenseness of our talent.

Chris: Sam you’re a tool.

Q: Oh and another one.... are you having fun, or is it all stress, sweat and hard work?

Sam: Yes

Roy: It’s all body fluids. But Loz, don’t put that down.

Ian: I’ve been told not to talk, I’m in the cone of silence. So no comment. I was going to say something like Roy said, but he said it better.

Sam: Nothing stacks up to signing boobs.

Q: this is a very universal question. Firstly suade i love u blokes......i wood never have wanted to be given the choice of choosing between u and pablo like mark did. if it was up to me i wood put u both thru and made a joint winner. but luckily im not judging else i wood be sued for breach of contract. you were so unique from pablo. at first i thaught pablo had more class and style. but u guys were so much more vibrant and charasmatic that in the end it was imposible to choose.......but now to my Q

Loz: Yes we were waiting for that bit heh heh. But we appreciate the kind words mate J

what are the key pointers you could give anyone like me who are hoping to get into a group of you nature. for i adore that style of music and want to join one as soon as i possibly can find on avaiable....So what would you tell some on the main keys to harmonising like you do, and writing great harmonies are.

Ian: It takes years of practice

Loz: Quiet you.

Chris: I guess it’s a fine balance between music theory, technical singing and being able to have a bit of fun.

Loz: We’ve tried out a lot of singers to find the group we ended up with – it’s hard to find people who have great voices who can also blend and sing with a group.

Roy: It depends what level you’re at, but to start off with, try singing with somebody and see if you can make your voice complement theirs. Don’t try to stand out, try to blend in.

Ian: Steve, you could always join a choir to start with.

Loz: It’s funny. We were all choir boys when we were younger. You pick up a lot of skills and knowledge while you sing some really boring stuff.

Ian: I didn’t find it boring

Chris: You wouldn’t.

Q: what are the points from becoming an amatuer band. to an absolutley mind blowing sensation like u fellows?????

Ian: The three P’s – practice, practice, practice.

Chris: Hard work, patience, and belief in yourself. Confidence on stage is a big thing.

Roy: Yeah, you can see it in a Karaoke bar. It’s not the best singers that people react to, it’s the biggest personalities and the people who are the best to watch.

Ian: The people that aren’t afraid to connect with the audience.

Sam: Serious goals, hard work, and keeping it fun. It’s hard not to sound cheesy, innit? This morning was the rudest morning I’ve had in a long time.

Loz: Tell us about it some other time Sammy.

Q: How do you pick the music you sing? Is it a group decision, or is it a case of each of you bringing songs that you like?

Ian: Both.

Roy: Not for me. The boys don’t want to sing any of my stuff.

Loz: Heh heh, that’s because you like dorky songs.

Roy: We started off doing a lot of tunes that had already been done a cappella, but now we’re having more fun working on originals and band tunes that we can put our own spin on.

Chris: I wanted to sing some Farnsy tunes, so I wrote a couple of arrangements of the songs he did with Human Nature, brought them in to the boys, and off we went.

Loz: But at the end of the day, it only takes a couple of runs through before we know if it’s a Suade song or not.

Ian: Do you know what I think?

All: Shaddup.

Q: Do you take requests?

Loz: Certainly. What would you like to hear? Don’t say Metallica.

Chris: That’s how we first started doing Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, somebody asked for it, we gave it a shot and now it’s one of our biggest show stoppers.

Sam: We do the odd wedding from time to time, people always have a song they want us to put together for their wedding. It’s very sweet.

Ian: Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee.

Loz:….? Uh, ok Ian……. Moving right along.

Q: Where do you see your group in the next couple of years? Will you use X Factor as a launch-pad to access the wider music-loving community?

Sam: Yep.

Roy
: Heh heh heh. Ahhhhh….. Hee hee heeeee hee hee!

Loz: Boys it wasn’t that funny.

Chris: We’d love to treat this show as a springboard, the exposure has been great, and we…

Roy: Exposure…. He said EXPOSURE.

All: Hahahahahaaaa

Loz: Ahhhh dear. Yes. Where were we… In a couple of years we’d hope to have finally finished our CD. Personally I just want to sing on big stages.

Roy: I want to be able to quit my job and sing full time. That’s the dream.

Chris: I have a mozzie in my pants.

Ian: Let me get that.

All: NO!

Q: I have got an idea, it could go off really well. With the slightly to quite variant styles of Pablo and Suade is it idealistic to do a combined concert where both groups do their own pieces and some together. The programme would look like: Both groups start together do three or four peices together

Up to 4 individual peices

Both groups again

Up to 4 individual peices

Both groups to finish

Loz: You’ve really put some thought into this

Sam: Do you guys think there’d be some interest in that sort of show?

Chris: We’d love to. During lockdown we actually had a sing-off on camera, but they didn’t put it in.

Roy: Yeah I thought that was a bit of a moment.

Q: This would also show that there are no hard feelings between the groups

Loz: Well no, but that’s just because we’re graceful losers.

Sam: Looo-hoooo-HOOOO-sers.

Chris: You’re the biggest loser of all, you LOSER.

Ian: Boys…

Q: and they can work well together and apart, and the fact a combined concert would sell better than a singular group concert. This would be also be from your complimentary and different styles and seeing the groups combine.

Roy: some ten-part arrangements would be pretty massive, but we’d give it a shot.

Loz: We’d sound like a choir. Just like that group of 60 blokes from Brisbane, except none of us can do back flips.

Ian: I can do a back flip… Watch...

****CRASH****

Chris: What’d he do? He better not have landed on any of my stuff.

Loz: Clown.

Q: And if you think the decision was hard on you, just think how hard it was on Mark - when he had so many good groups there. So what do you guys think?

Sam: Oh, yeah, poor Mark.

Chris: Our heart does bleed for Mark.

Loz: Mark had his five and his three picked out before lockdown began. We were merely pawns… Pawns in his game.

Roy: Mmmm… Pawn.... Oh.

Chris: I think Mark is the luckiest man around. To have that kind of talent just lining up.

Loz: I mean…. Random…Duh?

Ian: And those girls with no shoes.

Chris: Those girls…. Mmmm.

Q: Love your work heaps, i was hoping you would have been put through but i guess Mark had other ideas. What a shame!!!

Roy
: He had his idea. Which didn’t have us in it.

Loz: Waaaaah.

Q: Whats the plan for you now that you have had the needed Airtime exposure around OZ? Are you going to try for something bigger as a group?

Chris: There’s always something bigger.

Loz: I’m pretty big.

Ian: Dude!

Loz: Not like that. I mean, yeah, like that, but not like *that.*

Roy: We feel we’ve got ourselves a small wave to ride. A few more people out there know our name.

Sam: But the reality TV audience isn’t traditionally the most loyal bunch.

Loz: Who knows eh? These guys here look pretty loyal, aren’t ya folks?

Chris: It would be great to get to meet some of the guys from the forum here. You guys should come down to a show and say hi some time.

Ian: I like feeling like a rock star.

Everyone:…….?

Roy: M’kay.

Q: With the groups that are in now, who do you think should go through? After all, you have seen them perform in the flesh. Who has the best stage presence out of the Masterclass groups?

All: RANDOM!

Chris: Those boys are sick.

Sam: Fully sick.

Roy: Sicker than cancer.

Loz: Dude. That is not cool.

Chris: And Kaya. Yeah. Who else was in there. What were the other groups? DTP are out, aren’t they?

Roy: Were they Melbourne based?

Chris: Nope. The Phillipo brothers were going well, it’d be good to see them do well.

Roy: We all missed the show tonight so we don’t know who got through!

Q: To the guy that had to choose between Pablo and Suade are you single? :P I think you're a bit of a cutie!

Sam: Ahhahahahaha! Ahhhh crikey. I don’t know what to say to that. Check out www.suade.net, email me a photo and I’ll tell you if I’m single or not hahaha!

Chris: You shallow, shallow man.

Sam: hahahahaha! Was it a guy or a girl who asked that question?

Q: Also how did you make that choice? Thanks

Sam: Umm…. I…. Went with my gut instinct on what was the right group at the time. Uh… Yeah.

Chris: Sam’s always had crook guts.

Q: This question is more so directed at Sam, how dificult was it to choose which group to go for? Have u ever been put on the spot like that? Did Pablo know about Suade and visa versa?

Sam: I’ve never had to make a decision like that before, it was a real shock to have to do so. It was very difficult. Yes, both groups knew about the other. Everyone knew what the situation was but nobody thought I’d have to make the choice.

Loz: Sam asked every exec producer he could find before we both auditioned, and they all told him it wouldn’t be a problem.

Ian: So we were a bit set up.

Roy: It’s all good TV.

Q: And have the 2 groups done gigs together?

All: Nup.

Sam: But stay tuned

Q: Will you consider doing gigs together? Coz I think you will both go far if you work together as a side by side group. Have you conisdered that or is that something you will look at in the future?

Sam: We’ve definitely got a combined gig on the cards. Pablo seem reasonably keen, and we’re up for it.

Loz: Of course, there would have to be fisticuffs.

Ian: What’s a fisticuff?

Roy: I’ll show you.

Chris: Hahaha… "What’s a fisticuff?"

Ian: You boys are always picking on me.

Loz: Thanks for all your questions guys – please drop in to www.suade.net if you’ve got any others, we’re more than happy to help out.
