Empress.... Wow!
2005-10-21 - 11:15 a.m.
A big thanks again to everyone who came out on a drizzly Thursday night to sample the smoky atmosphere of the Empress Hotel. Ian wanted to apologise for his sickly, fluey voice on the night but we're not going to let him. In fact I personally felt his extra huskiness added a certain soul to his normally rather staid choral sound, and certainly lent extra authenticity to his drag-queen style impersonations of Olivia Newton-John. Thus from now on we'll be doing our best to induce a similar illness to him before each show in the hope of developing this unique sound. Thanks Ooon! Again we were surprised and overwhelmed by the energy of the crowd, who went bananas from the first song of the night (whipped into a frenzy no doubt by a rousing intro from our new ringside announcer, Rolly Mather) and didn't stop raising the roof til long after we finished. We have particularly great respect for the courage of those who were sitting on the vaguely biological carpet up near the stage, you must have needed to spatula yourselves up off that sticky floor. The night contained a personal milestone for me... For the last five years I've been asking event promoters to supply me with a bathtub full of red m&m's, which are my favourite flavour. Also, you know you've really made it as a rock star when you get a bathtub full of red m&m's. Well, last night was really a breakthrough as Bobbie, one of the event promoters, presented me with a large bowl of red m&m's before the show. It must have taken her ages, although I'm sure it was a labour of love. Thanks Bobbie! I took them home and put them straight in the bathtub. Once I've got enough, I shall bathe in them, rubbing them all over my naked body and then probably expecting people to help me eat them. Volunteers welcome. Over the next couple of months we'll keep toiling away on our CD, we're knocking tracks over gradually and coming up with some good fun stuff, so keep your fingers crossed and there's still a chance we might finish the damn thing before Christmas. We don't have too many more public shows lined up this side of the new year, although stand by for an announcement soon about an appearance headlining the MASSIVE Bayside Carols extravaganza, that should be an absolute bottler. Til then, keep smiling! :) Loz And the Suade lads.
