RECORDING!!!

Yes, the newsletter is late and yes, it's my fault, but there's a good excuse. The more intrepid of you will already be aware that the Suade boys have been holed up in our 'secret bunker location' (which we can now reveal was... Roy's house) recording great slabs of audio for the new CD! Looks like 11 of the 15 tracks will be Suade originals which is very exciting.

Loz and Rory have been updating www.suade.net with their 'Studio Diaries' which you can check out at your leisure. Some highlights include:

"Een comes back in by lunchtime. We're thoroughly sick of "Living Enough" by now so we put it aside and start getting him into footy bogan character for "One Week at a Time."
You have to understand how hard this track is for Een. He's just about the least ocker footy bogan sort of bloke any of us have ever met. He enunciates every word, sings in countertenor and finds it difficult to stray from oxford vowel shapes. And here we are asking him to sing like an extra from Crocodile Dundee."

"After dinner it's on to "Singin' in my Underpants" - which is a song I thought we'd never record. But it's become such a live favourite that we thought to hell with it, we'll chuck it on the CD. We considered doing a cut-down version to make it closer to a radio-friendly 3 or 4 minutes, but eventually decided to slap the whole damn song down there and keep it faithful to the live version. So it's gonna be closer to 7 minutes of jocks."

"Meanwhile back in the control room, Loz has one eye and ear on the music we're making, and the others scouring every corner of the internet for popular culture nuggets, the best of which were shown to the rest of us."

"All of us have come a long way since recording the last album. In my (humble) opinion:
- Ian has found more aspects of his voice, and is able to use them in recording (when he's concentrating ;P )
- Jacko, with his new found Logic Pro Version 8, is mastering the art of capturing our voices in their best light. On top of this, he ripped out an amazing, pooper busting part on the song Living Enough, be sure to listen out for it, simply stunning.
- Loz, while not singing a whole lot today, is much more constructive in his critique from the control room. More importantly he's been integral to creation of virtually every song on this record, a testament to his strengthening songwriting talent.
- and me (Rory), well I think I'm starting to get this singing thing - how to anchor songs and how to sit in the pocket of the groove."

TASSIE

In other news, we're off to Taswegia in the first week of July as guest artists for the Tasmanian Festival of Voices. A great chance for us to get in touch with new singers we haven't met, as well as to spend some time with some we've known for years. Although Loz seems to view this as a motorcycle thrashing holiday with some incidental singing involved, the Festival of Voices is a great event with a rich history. Previous guest artists to the festival include The Idea of North and Coco's Lunch so we're pretty chuffed to be invited to be this year's featured act amongst such impressive company.

That's about it for now. Been lovely chatting to you, glad to hear the kids are all well and we need to do this again over a beer sometime soon.

Keep feelin' the love.

Een...
and the Suade lads.

Oh... and PS: Next month's newsletter's going to contain a big, shocking and game-changing announcement we've been keeping under our hats. Not to wind you up or anything, but big changes are afoot... ;)

Oh... and PPS: Loz has been quietly trialling the idea of a Suade online discussion forum where you can have your say, chuck questions and comments around and generally have the run of the place. He's got the technology working, so if that's something you'd be interested in participating in, drop him an email at loz (at) suade.net or pop a message in the Guestbook to convince him to do the rest of the work to get it happening.
